During this mini symposium, world experts will present their scientific and medical analyses in relationship with the incidence of infectious and water-borne diseases, and will assess the relevance of the existing strategies. This meeting will also address the need to promote the development of an industrial research network in Africa to better support patients. Thus, our aim is to:
- Discuss how African nations can play an active role in the drug discovery process (similarly as many developed and emerging countries) and plan for building some capability to manufacture new drugs and generics locally;
- Leverage recent technological advances that are expected to provide some substantial health benefits to patients in Africa, in the field of prevention, detection and control of devastating diseases such as tuberculosis bacterium, infectious diseases (HIV, sickle cell anemia), water-borne diseases, certain forms of cancer etc.
Experts from Mali and abroad will be encouraged to debate on these key topics in presence of decision makers from the government and the academic and private sectors. Three types of format will be allowed for the oral presentations:
- Tutorials, trainings, and short courses;
- Public health priorities and strategies in Africa;
- New findings in scientific, medical and industrial research.
