MSAS'2010 minisymposium
Water Quality, Health and Environment Protection in Africa:
What kind of scientific and industrial research for implementing sustainable and economically feasible solutions applicable to the arid and semi-arid regions?
As for the past editions, this mini symposium will address the issue of water resources management in the desert, arid and semi-arid regions. We will review some key existing strategies for the fight against water-borne diseases (with devastating consequences in Africa) based on water treatment processes that are efficient, sustainable and financially attractive for the local economy. We will also discuss how to promote synergies between the local scientific and industrial research in order to:
- significantly improve the quality of drinking water, or discharged water, or water devoted to agricultural applications.
- support the design of new materials, processes and energetic systems which can be leveraged to produce clean water in compliance with WHO standards.
Experts from Mali and abroad will be encouraged to debate on these important matters in presence of decision makers from the government and the academic and private sectors. Three types of format will be allowed for the oral presentations:
- Tutorials, trainings, and short courses;
- National priorities and strategies for an improved management of water resources;
- New findings in scientific and industrial research.
